Marywood University is hosting the “Grad Finale” on April 9 and 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event is open to all graduating students from the class of 2014 and will be held in the Nazareth Student Center.
At the event, students receiving their undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level degrees can pick up their commencement admission cards as well as their caps and gowns. Students can also fulfill any requirements such as paying outstanding fines and or completing paperwork for grade releases to finalize their graduation.
Director of Conference and Special Events, John Coval, is part of the academic convocation committee, which is in charge of putting this event together. Coval, along with the Dean of the School of Architecture, Gregory Keane Hunt, are the co-chairs of the committee.
Coval said that the Grad Finale is a one stop-shopping event for seniors to get everything they need to graduate.
“It makes it more convenient and easier for the students, where[as] before, the students had to run all over campus to get these things done,” Coval said.
Although the academic convocation committee is in charge of bringing this event together, there will also be a number of different departments in attendance. Some of the departments that will be there are the Cashier’s Office, Alumni Relations, Career Services, Financial Aid, and the Registrar’s Office.
The Grad Finale is a trademark of the graduation company Jostens. Jostens provides this type of event at numerous other universities across the nation.
“They just try to make it easier for the students before graduation,” Coval explained.
Senior History Major, Oliver LaRocco, said he will be attending the Grad Finale before he graduates from Marywood.
“I do love the fact that this event makes the graduation process easier for us seniors. Right now I’m trying to figure out what I’m going to do after college, and this takes quite a bit of stress off of my plate,” LaRocco said.
According to Coval, the event will also have a “celebratory feel” in honor of the student’s graduating in May.
