As the semester winds down to a close, artists in the alternative and indie world are just beginning to bring a whole new sound to their tables. Artists such as Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness, The Japandroids, The Flaming Lips and The xx have plans to release new albums during the months of January and February,
Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness, formally known as Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate, is releasing a new album “Zombies on Broadway” on Feb. 10. The album includes 11 new songs, adding onto McMahon’s already extensive portfolio.

McMahon recently released a single off the new album “Brooklyn, You’re Killing Me,” which has a fast pace beat and fresh sound. The song brings out more sounds from McMajon’s last band, Jack’s Mannequin, allowing his fans of all ages to come together with his new music.

Alternative band The Japandroids are set to release their new album “Near To The Wild Heart of Life” at the end of January. Their recent single from the album title has already grown in popularity, allowing The Japandroids to already see the positive feedback. They also seem to be sticking to their alternative/punk sounds that have made them famous within this new album.

“Oczy Mlody,” The Flaming Lip’s upcoming album, is said to be released on Jan. 13 of next year. Fans of the band have planted their excitement in the new singles “The Castle” and “How??” that were released from the new album earlier in 2016.

Also being released on Jan. 13 is indie artist The xx’s new album “I See You.” The album holds 10 new songs for listeners, after a four year wait from the debut of their 2012 album “Coexist.”

“On Hold” was the first single released over a month ago, allowing fans to get immersed in the warm vibes from Jamie Smith, Oliver Sim and Romy Croft, the main band members of The xx. Those who have followed the band can already hear the difference that “I See You” will be taking on.

Make sure you are always on the lookout for great new music from these and other artists over break. With the new year right around the corner, so is new music to go along with it!
