The Flea Market took place in the Latour Room in Nazareth Student Center on April 8 at 8 a.m. for students, faculty and members of the community.

Campus Ministry at Marywood University organized the event to raise money for service trips. The Latour Room featured various items for sale ranging from books, VHS tapes, household ornaments, toys and clothing.

“Each cent that we make today will benefit Marywood University’s alternate trips,” said junior music therapy music major, Janet Herington. “Everyone who showed up today was very willing to support our cause,” she added.

Herington said that the trips support various charitable organizations within and outside the U.S. He noted that students work a lot with The Salvation Army and Nashville Cares in Nashville, Tennessee.

Freshman nursing major Megan Calcaterra said that the market was much busier in the morning and people lined up outside the Latour Room right before the doors opened at 8 a.m.

“Various people from the community, students, faculty and sisters lined up to come shop at the market,” she said. “It is really heartwarming to see people supporting our cause.”

Junior nutrition major Maria Temples, who also organized the event, said that the Flea Market is one of the biggest fundraisers for Campus Ministry.

“We organize a Flea Market before every trip; one before the spring trip and one before the summer trip,” Temples said. “We have roller blades, books, movies and even kitchen items such as glasses and mugs. We are also giving out a tea basket via raffle.”

Beginning at 3p.m. till 5:30 p.m., market goers could fill up their bags for $1 with whatever they wanted. The event concluded with a lot of merchandise being sold and according to Temples, a lot of money was raised.
