The Marywood University field hockey squad was on an eight-game losing streak to fellow Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent, Gwynedd Mercy University.

The losing streak that dates back to 2008 held strong once again after the Pacers were unable to hold on to a 2-1 halftime lead against the Griffins on Wednesday, Sept 28.

According to marywoodpacers.com, junior defender Tori Jo Kakusian opened the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner pass from teammate senior forward Gabbie Bower.

Freshman midfielder Lindsey Quinn put the second goal in the net after a scrum close to the Griffins’ goal giving the Pacers a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

The Griffins, however, did not go quietly after the first half. Forward Melissa Russo scored four unanswered goals in the second act.

Russo tied the game at two scores apiece with a goal in the 51st minute, catching a rebound off of her own shot.

Two of Russo’s next three goals were off of assists from teammate Shannon Carroll. Her other goal came in the 66th minute off of another rebound.

With the loss, Marywood has a 6-3 overall record (1-1, CSAC). The Pacers have another CSAC game when they take on the Immaculata Mighty Macs on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m.
