Marywood Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD) held an entire week of interactive events dedicated to welcoming new and returning students to the fall 2018 semester.

From Aug. 27 to Sept. 4, students of all class levels gathered around campus for a variety of activities offered throughout the week. Welcome Week included a chance to meet therapy dogs, play against fellow faculty members in “Faculty Feud” and various other activities.

Additionally, students had the opportunity to get involved in a number of different Marywood clubs and organizations with the Involvement Fair, as well as get to know Greek life by meeting some of the sororities on campus.

Director of SALD Kim Coleman said Welcome Week wasn’t much different than summer orientation, but it was more of an extension to it.

“[Welcome Week] is only slightly different to orientation because of the fact that it is open to all class years,” Coleman said. “We wanted to get everyone involved on the first day of school, and not limit the fun to one particular group of people.”

Michael Kalage, assistant director of SALD, said that he reached out to multiple groups on campus, as well as the ones who worked inside of the SALD center, to figure out how he could include everyone in Welcome Week.

“We wanted to give everyone a chance to interact with students and to introduce themselves,” Kalage said.

The clubs and organizations that played a role in Welcome Week were the Student Activities Crew (SAC), Marywood Commuter Committee (MCC), Student Government Association (SGA), National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and more.

“I think Welcome Week was a great way to let students, new and returning, understand what we offer here at Marywood,” Coleman said. “There was something for everyone on the schedule for the week, so being able to reach out to the whole student body and help them find their niche was very important to us.”

Students who have questions about getting involved in any club or organization on campus can email [email protected] or [email protected].
