Recently I went to see the new romantic comedy release, She’s Out of My League. The movie stared more up and coming actors rather than well-known ones. It was a lot funnier than I expected it to be, just because I didn’t really know what to expect going into the movie. Knowing that the movie wasn’t very well advertised and that most of the actors were ones I have never heard of before, I really had no idea what kind of movie I was in for besides that fact that it was a romantic comedy. She’s Out of My League is definitely a movie I would recommend going to see just for a good laugh and a cute, fun date with the boyfriend or night out with the girls. It’s a fun movie that primarily targets young, college students but also one that mostly anyone would enjoy.
She’s Out of My League is a cute, amusing, comic story about a guy named Kirk who is just your average Joe. He is not one of the most popular kids…he is clumsy, socially awkward, backward, and a little on the quirky side. In the beginning of the movie, he is still madly in love with his ex who is quite a flake and nobody likes her. He comes from a crazy, rather obnoxious family, and he doesn’t have much knowledge at all on girls and relationships. One day, while he was working at the airport as the airport security guard, he meets a very attractive, classy, event planner named Molly who is being held up and delayed by a sleazy security guard. He helps her get to her plane on time, but realizes after she leaves that she forgot her cell phone. Finally, Molly gets in touch with him and has him meet her to give her back her phone and they end up hanging out and having a fun time together. Kirk’s friends are constantly reminding him that Molly is way better than him and that on a scale of 1-10, he is a “5” and she is a “10.” They keep telling him that anything between Kirk and Molly will never work, and even though Kirk is smitten with her, he starts to believe the nonsense his friends are feeding him. Molly starts to fall for Kirk because he is charming, amusing, and different than any other guy she has ever been with, and most of all he is safe for her. Soon, a series of events take place and Kirk starts to unravel. He convinces himself that he really isn’t good enough for her and his lack of self-esteem begins to show. Will they find a way to recover their fling and make a lasting relationship? Or will everything start to fall apart? That is the big question and that’s what makes the movie so intriguing and simply enjoyable to watch.
She’s Out of My League was released on March 12, 2010. The movie is directed by Jim Field Smith, a young, up and coming director who has directed a few movies as well as written and acted in others. He is currently in the process of directing a film that will be released in 2012, along with a few that have been released over the past couple of years including the film Goodbye to the Normals that was released in 2006. In my opinion, Jim Field Smith did a great job directing She’s Out of My League. Along with Jim Field Smith being an up and coming director, there were many actors in the movie that are not too well known. The role of Molly was played by Alice Eve, a young actress from the UK, like Jim Field Smith. Alice Eve played in several movies throughout the past couple years, but none that most would probably have heard of. She has stared in movies like Hawking, Stage Beauty, and Crossing Over. She will also be appearing in Sex and the City 2 which will be released in 2010. Jay Baruchel also had the lead role as Kirk. He is a young actor from Canada and stared in movies such as Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Tropic Thunder, and Knocked Up. Lindsay Sloane started in this movie and many know of her as Sabrina’s friend Valerie from Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Debra Jo Rupp played the role of Kirk’s mother and she is famously known for her role as Eric’s mother in That 70’s Show.
She’s Out of My League is a must see for those who love comedies, and those out looking for a fun-filled night. This is a movie that you won’t forget!
