Men’s Soccer
Marywood had a home match against The City College of New York Beavers on Saturday. The Pacers are looking to build up momentum for their slow year and the Beavers are in search of their first win. Marywood would strike first on a penalty kick from Owen Clearwaters in the 24th minute. Jared Sanborn joined in on the action two minutes later. Jadyn Sturniolo would score in the 37th minute to make the Pacers’ lead 3-0. Marywood held onto that lead for the rest of the game and got the victory. Junior Jairo Salazar had a great day for the Pacers by saving nine goals. Marywood improved to 3-5-1.
Woman’s soccer
Marywood hosted Cairn University Highlanders on Wednesday. The Pacers have never lost to the Highlanders in any of the 12 total match ups. Marywood would start out strong as Carly Walters scored on a penalty kick at the 25-minute mark. Olivia Abrachinsky would join in on the fun by scoring a goal of her own 10 minutes before halftime. The Pacers would connect on a third goal this time by Yianna Mazzella. Marywood remains undefeated against Cairn and wins 3-0.
On Saturday, the Pacers would defend home turf again with the Bryn Mawr Owls visiting. The first half was a defensive battle. Genevieve Morrison saved two goals for Marywood, while Maeve Slemko stopped the ball four times for the Owls. Walters would finally strike the net with the help of Kylie McDonald. Bryn Mawr would get two shots but no shots on goal in the second half. Walters’ score would be the lone goal scored by either side. Marywood improved to 8-1 on the season.
Men’s Tennis
Marywood took on DeSales University on Saturday and won 4-3. The Pacers would fall in the first two singles, but Zane Smoker picked up a 6-1, 6-2 score in the third single. Marywood lost the fourth one but won the fifth and sixth single matches. For the doubles, the Pacers won the second and third doubles to win the day.
Women’s Tennis
The Pacers traveled to DeSales University on Saturday and picked up the 7-0 win. Kylie Kilgore won the first singles contest by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Alexandra Vitale defeated her opponent in a 6-2, 6-7 [10-2] victory. Avianna Santarelli won 6-2, 6-0. In the fourth singles, Catarina English recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory. In the fifth singles, Hanna Adonizio went on to win 6-4, 6-4. Hannah Brownlee secured a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory in the sixth singles. For the double matches, Marywood won two out of three matches.
Volleyball
Marywood hosted the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Wednesday. The Red Dragons took the first set in a close one, 25-22. Then the Pacers would strike back and dominate the second set winning, 25-16. SUNY Oneonta took the advantage in the third set, 25-19. Marywood regathered and won the next two sets to earn the victory. Sophomore Genevieve Pollock led and tied her season high in kills for the Pacers, tallying up 16. Ayla Bransford also led her team in assists with 39.
On Saturday, the Pacers went on the road to play the SUNY-Delhi Broncos. They entered the game winless with a 1-4 record against Marywood. The Pacers started out hot by winning the first two sets both by 25-14. They would remain in control and win the third set 25-8. Carolina Samaniego led the team with 8 kills and Bransford had 12 assists. The Pacers’ second game of the day was against Elmira College Eagles. In similar fashion Marywood would win in three sets. Samaniego again had the most kills with 7 and Bransford led with 11 assists. They improved to 14-1 on the year with their only loss coming from Penn State Harrisburg.
Field Hockey
On home turf the Marywood Pacers faced the King’s College Monarchs. In the first period, Brooke Barwick would score the first goal of the game and be assisted by Dariane Jones. The Pacers continued to score, this time coming from Lany Straub. Marywood entered the break leading 2-0. Jones would strike a minute after the third period started. The Pacers would not score anymore but prevented the Monarchs from getting any goals. They won 3-0 and moved to 5-4 on the season.
