Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer squad was on the road this week, starting off with Moravian University on Tuesday. It was a scoreless contest through the first 58 minutes, until the Greyhounds punched in their first goal of the game. The Pacers kept fighting for the next 14 minutes when Moravian put the nail in the coffin, scoring two goals within 19 seconds of each other in the 73rd minute, defeating the Pacers 3-0.
The Pacers then traveled to Neumann on Saturday to kick off the beginning of conference play. This matchup turned into a defense-heavy game with both teams’ scores showing zeros through the first 80 minutes of the match. The Knights would be the first and only team to score in the 82nd minute, taking a 1-0 lead and eventually a 1-0 victory over the Pacers. Marywood would fall to 3-8-1 on the season and 0-1 in Atlantic East Conference play.
Women’s Soccer
Marywood women’s soccer traveled to Wilkes-Barre to take on Wilkes University on Wednesday for their last non-conference opponent of the regular season. The Colonels started off the contest on a high note taking a 2-0 through the first 17 minutes. The Pacers, now facing some adversity, answered with a Bryn Stiles goal in the 19th minute. Now down 2-1, Marywood was still clawing back. A little help from Wilkes would tie the match at 2-2 through 38 minutes from an own goal. Carly Walters was able to tally on another goal for the Pacers in the 57th minute to take a 3-2 lead. Wilkes was able to score in the 76th minute, now tying the Pacers 3-3 with 14 minutes to go. Riley Bittenbender would put an end to the back-and-forth contest, scoring the 7th and final goal of the game to secure a 4-3 road victory for Marywood.
Finishing non-conference play with a 9-1 record gives Marywood their best record ever through the first 10 games.
Marywood hosted Neumann University on Saturday for the beginning of conference play and their journey to go back-to-back as Atlantic East Champions. It didn’t take very long for the Pacers to get on the board as Stiles set the tone with a goal in the 17th minute. Stiles didn’t take long to find the back of the net again when she converted on another shot on goal in the 29th minute. Genevieve Morrison had three saves on the day, helping the team capture a shutout victory.
The Pacers are now 10-1 on the season.
Men’s Tennis
The Pacers are having a great start to their season. With their best start in over a decade, they were looking to tally on another win for their squad, this time against Misericordia University. Gavin Gagliardi led that way, winning the top singles flight by 6-3, 6-3 scores. Zane Smoker won the third singles 6-2, and 6-3. They would go on to win 5-2.
On Saturday, Marywood faced a tough opponent in Susquehanna University. Susquehanna cleared the board for this match, winning 7-0. The Pacers moved to 4-2 on the season with the loss.
Women’s Tennis
The Pacers on Tuesday hosted Misericordia University, which was 2-1 coming into their match. Misercordia took care of business for the top two flights, but the Pacers were able to capture victories in the third-sixth singles for the first time since 2017. Marywood was able to squeak out a 4-3 victory and send their opponents home with a loss.
Marywood didn’t pump their breaks with a trip to Susquehanna University. Kylie Kilgore started it off for the Pacers, capturing the top-flight singles match by the score of, 7-0, and 7-6 (1). The rest would follow with only the fifth singles going Susquehanna’s way. Marywood would leave Susquehanna with a 6-1 victory and extend their record to 3-1.
Volleyball
The volleyball team has been rolling all season and that momentum continued with their match this week against Wilkes University. The Pacers had a clean sweep in this meeting, winning 25-19, 25-13, and 25-15. It was all Marywood, asserting their dominances from the jump. Taylor Hallam was rocking the wooden floor with her 14 kills, five aces and eight blocks. Hallam would finish the contest having more points scored than the entire offense for Wilkes. Ayla Bransford totaled 30 assists throughout the three matches, and Catie Woolf had 18 digs.
This extends the Pacers record to 15-1 and continues their best record in program history.
Field Hockey
The Marywood field hockey team hosted the Susquehanna River Hawks on Wednesday. The first half was scoreless with both teams struggling offensively. The River Hawks were able to equalize on a shot in the 43rd minute that would give them 1-0 lead. This would be about all as the Pacers would get outshot 18-2 on the night and lose the contest, 1-0.
Prior to their match on Saturday, the Pacers recognized seniors Phaedra Day, Lianna Horner, Dariane Jones and Jordan Saybe. The Pacers came out firing in the first half, taking a commanding 3-0 lead. The third period was all DeSales, as they fought back to tie it up at 3-3. The Bulldogs scored their game-winning goal in the 53rd minute, spoiling the Pacers senior day, and headed back to DeSales with a win. The Pacers fall to 5-6.
