Women’s Soccer
Marywood faced Saint Elizabeth University in its second conference game of the year. Yianna Mazzella scored first for the Pacers, with Riley Bittenbender, Bella Wright and Katie Baker contributing to a four-goal first half for Marywood. Carly Walters scored her 10th goal of the year in the second half, giving Marywood the 6-0 win.
Prior to the start of the Marywood game against Centenary, seniors Carly Walters, Caroline Walters, Rylee Alston, Britlyn Higgins, Mazzella and Lydia Mariotti were all recognized for their time at Marywood. The Pacers started slow in the first half, being up 2-1 at the half. Carly Walters turned it around with a hat-trick in the second half to give the Pacers a 6-1 win over Centenary.
Men’s Soccer
The Pacers hosted Saint Elizabeth University for the first conference game of the year. Jack Forbes scored for the Pacers with a goal just before the 30th minute. Alex Visha was credited with an assist and a goal in the first half. In the second half, Marywood continued on its dominant play with two goals to cruise to a 4-0 win.
Marywood faced off against Centenary University in a commanding 4-1 win. The Pacers scored early with a goal from Hayden Slater. Later in the half, Owen Clearwaters scored to make it 2-0 after the first half. The second was more of the same for the Pacers as Jason Camardo’s goal made it 3-0, and Ryan Surowiec’s goal in the 83rd minute secured the victory for the Pacers.
Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team started its week with a victory over King’s College. Marywood won all six of its singles matches, with Avianna Santarelli, Catarina English and Hannah Brownlee all beating their respective opponents 6-0, 6-0 in two sets. Marywood took the victory in two out of three doubles matches to win with a final score of 7-0.
The Pacers suffered their first loss of the year to Wilkes University. Avianna Santarelli won the third singles match 6-0,6-3, Hanna Adonizio was victorious in the fifth singles match 6-3, 6-1. Those would be the only points they were able to win; they would lose 5-2.
Men’s Tennis
Men’s tennis improved its record to 5-2 for the year with a win over King’s College for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The Pacers started off strong, winning in all three of their doubles matches, with Jack Biggs and Fred Kloss able to hold on with a score of 7-5 to secure all three doubles points. In the first singles match, Gavin Gagliardi shut out his opponent 6-0, 6-0, and Zane Smoker followed with 6-0, 6-0 victory in the third singles match to help Marywood to a 7-0 victory.
Marywood fell to Wilkes University 5-2. Gagliardi won the first singles match 7-6(4), 6-4. Aiden Brunner took home the win in the sixth singles match to give Marywood two points on the day. The loss drops the Pacers’ record to 5-3 overall.
Women’s Volleyball
The volleyball team continued its strong season with the school’s first-ever victory over Drew University. The Pacers won all three sets with scores of 25-21,25-17 and 25-18. Carolina Samaniego was a presence at the net with nine kills, while Taylor Hallam and Genevieve Pollock each had seven, respectively, Catie Woolf’s 22 digs led the team. Ayla Bransford’s strong day concluded with 28 assists, which led Marywood to a 3-0 victory.
Marywood faced Gwynedd Mercy in its first conference match of the season Saturday.
Marywood won its second match of the day with a 3-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark. Samaniego, Hallam, and Ryleigh Hart lead the team in kills with eight. Libby Zick recorded three aces along with 10 assists, to go along with Bransford’s 14. The two wins give Marywood a record of 18-1.
Field Hockey
The Pacers fell late to Misericordia 3-1. Misericordia jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 19th minute of play. Olivia Seidel’s goal in the 44th minute tied the game at one. Two late goals by Misericordia handed Marywood the loss at home, with freshman goalkeeper Bre Marchiano making nine saves in the game. The Pacers’ record is now 5-7 on the year.
Marywood took on Gwynedd Mercy, with the Pacers falling behind early. A goal from Olivia Seidel tied it at 1-1. Gwynedd Mercy took the lead again in the third period with a 2-1 lead going into the fourth period. Two goals in the fourth by Addison Marcin and Darine Jones gave the Pacers a 3-2 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.
Swimming and Diving
The Marywood women’s swimming and diving team started its year with wins over King’s College, 213-36, and a 172.2-101.5 victory over Wilkes University to start the season 2-0. The men’s team, unfortunately, won’t be able to repeat the women’s early success as they fell to King’s College 133-105 and 197-57 against Wilkes University.
