Men’s Tennis:
This week in men’s tennis, the Pacers hosted the Bard College Raptors on Tuesday. The winners to emerge victorious in the matches were Zane Smoker and Issac Carpenter who won with a score of 6-4. Later in the week the Pacers traveled out to Oneota on Saturday. Although the Pacers fought hard, nobody was able to come out on top.
Women’s Tennis:
Marywood fell 6–3 at SUNY Oneonta on Saturday in Oneonta, N.Y. The Red Dragons swept all three doubles, and they went on to claim four of six singles matches. Hanna Adonizio won her No. 4 singles match in straight sets and Hannah Brownlee added a three-set comeback victory at No. 5, but Oneonta’s strong doubles beginning and consistent singles play sealed the game.
Women’s Volleyball:
In Wednesday’s close match, Cairn and Marywood toughed it out. Marah Lehman led Cairn’s offense with 16 kills, supported by Bridget Dahn and Georgianna Thorpe, while Anna dished out a total of 44 assists. Liliana Magazzu cemented the back row with 17 digs, and Bella Manthe added 4 aces from the service line. For Marywood, Genevieve Pollock responded to Lehman with 16 kills, including Carolina Samaniego and Taylor Hallam. Ayla Bransford directed the offense with 48 assists and added 5 aces; Taylor Howard anchored the defense at the net with five blocks and Catie Woolf had 24 digs. Both teams demonstrated well-balanced attack and stifling defense in a competitive and back-and-forth game. Marywood won 3-2.
Marywood dropped a 3–0 to Marymount (26–24, 25–16, 25–16) on Saturday. Genevieve Pollock led the Pacers with 9 kills, while Bransford tallied 24 assists and 10 digs. Marymount’s balanced attack, led by Johanna Modica and Sabrina Schoeberlein with 9 kills each, lifted the Saints to 3–0 in Atlantic East play as Marywood fell to 19–2.
Marywood battled DeSales hard on Saturday, with Bransford putting up 36 assists and Samaniego putting up 13 kills. Andrea Fraga posted 20 digs and Tess Connolly put up 4 aces. For DeSales, Allison Reimer led all attackers with 15 kills and Ashlyn Dinan posted 27 assists and 14 digs, while Kylie Campbell set the defense with 29 digs to propel DeSales to victory, 3-2.
Field Hockey:
Stockton dominated from start to finish in a 7-0 victory over Marywood on Oct. 14 in Galloway, N.J. Brooke Ruizand and Riley DeMarco each had two first-half scores and DeMarco completed a hat trick during the third period. Jessica Bruther and Leah Bruchansky also counted for the Ospreys, who outshot Marywood 28-5 and took the game 14-3 on penalty corners. Stockton’s strong offense and balanced attack yielded the dominating home win.
Marywood came back from a two-goal hole Saturday to defeat Neumann 3-2 on Saturday in Scranton. Neumann’s Cadence Conti and Gabriella Cappelli put the hosts ahead early, but Marywood took the lead with a strong second half. Pacers’ Brooke Barwick scored the opening goal before Marywood’s Dariane Jones tallied two goals, including the go-ahead goal in the fourth quarter. Marywood dominated Neumann 26-13 in shots to stay unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.
Men’s Soccer:
Marywood defeated Marymount 3-1 on Saturday. Erick Shoetter-Rojas had Marymount on the board first in the first half on a penalty kick, then Ryan Surowiec scored on one of his own to put the teams at 1-1 at halftime. In the second half, Donnie Powell put the Pacers ahead with his season’s opening goal, thanks to Jack Forbes and Jared Sanborn secured a win with a second penalty kick in the 84th minute. The win carried Marywood to 3-1 in conference play.
Women’s soccer:
Marywood extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 1-0 victory at Marymount on Saturday at Long Bridge Park. Carly Walters scored the lone goal in the 23rd minute, securing her 14th of the season on a feed from Faith Meals. The Pacers’ defense and goalkeeping stymied shots of 13 to 11, putting Marywood at 4-0 in conference action.
