Marywood’s Career Services hosted two LinkedIn workshops on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and Wednesday, Feb. 14.

LinkedIn is a profile-building online network that allows users to connect with past or current colleagues, search for possible careers and uncover new business opportunities.

The workshop was open to students and alumni. Those who attended were encouraged to bring a laptop or device to set up their profiles.

Christina Brundage, assistant director of advising and career development, conducted the workshop on both occasions.

“[This workshop] was designed to help students and alumni create a powerful online LinkedIn profile that portrays their professional brand,” Brundage said.

Participants learned how to set up their own LinkedIn profile by choosing a professional headshot, including keywords in their summary and connecting with recruiters from other organizations.

Senior History Major Liz Weyman said she believes opening a LinkedIn account will help her find future employment.

“[LinkedIn] really allows me to show my stuff to potential employers,” Weyman said. “It gives me the chance to connect with employers I’ve never even thought about contacting.”

To follow up with LinkedIn 101, Brundage hinted at upcoming interactive events for graduating students such as resume building and networking workshops.
