Alpha Sigma Psi is a service-based sorority that focuses not only on its mission of empowering young women but also on the next generation that will follow.

Founded in 2013, Alpha Sigma Psi established its philanthropy of working with children through various organizations, primarily the Jude Zayac Foundation, the Ronald McDonald House and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Its core values include being action oriented, showing respect, having dedication to service, integrity and unity.

Sophomore architecture major Paige Stryshak explained how these core values translate into everyday life on campus.

“We want everyone to be treated with respect, for others and ourselves. We hold ourselves to these standards hoping to make ourselves and others’ lives better,” said Stryshak.

In addition to the national organizations it supports, Alpha aspires to collaborate with other groups within Marywood’s community, including the Santa Parade, NativityMiguel and the Marywood University Dance Marathon.
“Since Marywood is such a small campus, it is easy to be involved in multiple things,” explained Lindsey Walk, Alpha’s secretary. “Due to this, it is super easy to stay connected on campus. Members of Alpha participate in many activities around campus and collaborate with many organizations as well.”
Walk is a senior Biology major who also serves as the printed media coordinator for Marywood’s first ever Dance Marathon.

“Alpha is planning on having a team for the dance marathon [which we felt] was a great thing to get involved with since our philanthropy is children,” explained Walk. “We are so excited to help get this amazing event off the ground here at Marywood.”

Madi Grose is a sophomore art therapy major who initially did not think the sorority life was for her. However, when friends convinced her to attend recruitment nights, she immediately fell in love with the community.
“Alpha Sigma Psi is a really tight knit sorority full of people who share the same values. We really all care so deeply for each other and make that obvious,” explained Grose. “Personally, I implement our beliefs into how I interact with people. It is always best to be kind and to be there for everyone around us.”
