In a previous article, I discussed the need for better security in the Bachelor Franchise. Unfortunately, the problems that arose are becoming more apparent. This previous Bachelorette’s fiance has a restraining order against him. This issue also occurred during this first season of The Golden Bachelorette.
Last season’s Bachelorette winner had a restraining order against him from his ex-girlfriend and he was arrested for trespassing her home. His ex claimed he came “to her house banging on the door several times and screaming at her.” His ex also claimed he “put me in a chokehold covering my mouth.” He got arrested and only received one year of unsupervised probation.
Poor Jenn Tran was nearly thrown into danger twice, between her runner-up’s allegations and her ex-fiance’s restraining order and claims of abusive behavior from his ex.
The Bachelor Franchise expanded recently to include the Golden portion, which is like the Bachelor/Bachelorette but for senior citizens. The Golden Bachelor seemingly went off without a hitch but the same can’t be said for the Golden Bachelorette.
Keep in mind this is only the first season of the Golden Bachelorette. This contestant had a temporary restraining order for domestic violence. His ex-girlfriend filed the restraining order over allegations of being stalked. She claimed “he made repeated unwanted contact with me, family members and friends.” She also claimed that he “showed up at places I frequent to confront me on a daily basis.”
The July 2 hearing was postponed because he wasn’t able to be served because he was likely filming. The hearing occurred on July 24 and was dismissed because of lack of evidence.
Even though the order is dismissed, why let him be on the show? The hearing is more important than filming the Golden Bachelorette, and I’m a fan of the Bachelor Franchise. If the schedule was that strict, producers could’ve picked another contestant because lots of people apply.
This case had a 50/50 shot of going either way. Domestic violence is a serious crime. Why put a bachelorette, who didn’t sign up for this, at risk?
Problems with security are getting worse by spilling into the Golden Bachelor Franchise. Even though the issues mentioned only affect the Bachelorette and Golden Bachelorette for now, if security doesn’t improve it’s only a matter of time before issues spill into the Bachelor parts of the franchise.
They need better security measures and back-up contestants in case something unexpected happens with one of the contestants. In the event they find the issue out after filming they need to address it and own their mistake. Innocent until proven guilty isn’t a good motto to follow when putting people on the show who have allegations and restraining orders against them.
