“The Summer I Turned Pretty” tells the story of young love, self-discovery and the challenges of growing up. Belly, the main role, finds herself in the middle of a love triangle between two boys whom she has known her whole life. We follow her journey as she faces consequences, difficult choices and navigates her feelings.
The boys, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, who have two different personalities, compete to end up with Belly, making the two lose to each other in the process. The show is a rollercoaster of emotions that fans are buzzing about every year since the show was released in 2022. The question remains: Will Belly choose herself or one of the boys?
Belly Conklin is a naturally upbeat girl who struggles with the complications of love. Her journey is marked by unforgettable friendship and family. She finds herself in the midst of a love triangle with the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah. Belly’s experiences captivate the viewers through her self-discovery and her ability to work through change. Through all her challenges, she will ultimately have to choose who to love.
Over the span of two years, Conrad Fisher has stolen the hearts of many of the show’s viewers. Though timid, Conrad is full of emotion, and his journey through the complex relationship and personal struggles highlights his character. His unspoken feelings resonate with the audience, and the key to remembering small details about Belly makes him unforgettable. Conrad’s emotions and reasons for breaking up with Belly may make people think they are excuses; in reality, he was struggling with much more, as we find out in the newest season. Even though the breakup was terrible, he still fought for Belly in the end, even if it made his brother hate him. He was determined to keep Belly in his life. He wrote letters and even sent Belly Junior Mint, which is the bear he won her at the boardwalk. Around the bear’s neck was the infinity necklace from Belly’s 16th birthday. Conrad chased, but he waited for the perfect moment, once Belly settled down in Paris and on her first birthday away from her cousins. In the newest episode, we get flashbacks of them, and he tends to mention all the little things he has remembered Belly saying. In the end, Conrad and Belly are “endgame.”
Jeremiah Fisher is definitely a force to be reckoned with in this show. In the first two seasons, the brother puts up a good fight for Belly and even ends up dating her in the second season. Jeremiah was the perfect boyfriend. They went to the same college, spent the summers at the beach house together, and even almost got married. Jeremiah proposed to Belly in the third season right outside the hospital, where her brother Steven was in critical condition after a dramatic car accident. Throughout the third season, we see Belly planning this wedding all by herself. Jeremiah was working at his father’s company to try and raise money for the wedding, but most importantly… impress his dad. In the final episodes leading up to the wedding, viewers see Conrad working on the beach house, getting everything prepared for his brother’s wedding, while Jeremiah is in New York working. Although in the final few episodes, the wedding gets called off, and Conrad confesses his love. Belly still goes to Paris and studies abroad while Jeremiah is “couch surfing” with friends, trying to get his feet back on the ground. This shows how he really felt about Belly and the wedding. Conrad and Belly do get back together in the final episode, and Jeremiah gets with co-worker Denise.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is a show that captivated millions of viewers in a short amount of time. It is based on the book trilogy by the amazing author Jenny Han. But one thing no one expected was a surprise movie announcement the day the last episode came out. Will we see more of “Bonrad” or will we see another heartbreak? I guess this is the best cliffhanger to end on. See you when the movie comes out with another review.
