Marywood University Art Galleries are currently hosting two architecture exhibitions; FROZEN Music: Frank Gehry and the Walt Disney Concert Hall and BUILD. Pennsylvania Architects.
Colleen Farry, a recent Marywood Interior Architecture/Design graduate, who now works for an architectural firm called The Palumbo Group, which is also exhibited in the gallery, sent out callings for entries through the AIA chapters for architects throughout Pennsylvania. She had received work of many architects but had to go through a selection process, which was tough. Her choices focused on variety and diversity in three categories: residential, community, and commercial/interiors perspectives. The selected participating firms are Agoos/Lovera Architects, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, Digsau, Hemmler plus Camayd Architects, Highland Associates, Interface Studio Architects, L2 Architecture, Quad 3 Group, The Palumbo Group, and Wallace Roberts & Todd.
What drove Farry to accomplish this was “to enable design students to have first-hand experience with various architectural firms engaged in diverse projects that have an impact not only in our region, but also throughout the United States” Farry stated.
After seven months of her hard work putting the exhibition together, it was completed. Farry had an “enjoyable experience.” “Marywood had fostered my experience and gave me a foundation to host this exhibition.” “Architecture is not just structural but sculptural.”
You don’t have to be an architecture student to enjoy these exhibits. You can visit these galleries and enjoy the hard work that these individual architects have put into it. From computer regenerated layouts or 3-D buildings set right in front of you, your jaw will drop in the amazement of how they can create and build these blueprints you see before your eyes in such creative styles.
I encourage you to visit these two galleries and to step into the world of Architecture.
There will also be a community talk by architect, Peter Q. Bohlin, FAIA on March 14th at 3pm, Comerford Theatre, Center for Health and Natural Sciences room 126.
