Marywood celebrated Human Resources Professionals Week, a brand new initiative in Pennsylvania.

Marywood University’s Human Resources department proposed the idea for Human Resources Professionals Week to Pennsylvania State Representative Karen Boback. It was passed with a vote of 192-0 in the Pennsylvania House on Oct. 16.

Director of Human Resources Dr. E. Lee Felder Jr. said the department decided to write to Boback after she attended an HR event with Marywood Human Resources earlier in the year.

“It came about as part of the Marywood University HR strategic plan. We thought we could do something special, not only for our HR here, but for HR professionals across the entire state,” Felder said.

To celebrate the news, the Human Resources department held multiple events from Oct. 22 to Oct. 26, including an open house in the department, an ice cream truck and a cash drive for Campus Ministry’s annual Thanksgiving Adopt-a-Family drive.

Human Resources Assistant Mary Reggie helped plan and coordinate the events at Marywood.

“Human Resources is so necessary for an organization or a company and you have some recognition and it makes others aware that we are here for them,” Reggie said.

She said sometimes HR has a negative connotation, but the department does a lot of good things, such as payroll for students and staff and helping to mediate problems.

Human Resources Professionals Week will be held on the third week of October each year.
