Men’s Soccer
Marywood hosted non-conference team Oswego State on Wednesday. The Pacers failed to secure the win, losing 3-0. The Pacers couldn’t get any rhythm on offense to score. The match was scoreless in the first half. Once it hit the second half Oswego gained momentum, scoring the first goal of the game in the 62nd minute. The Pacers defense broke down, allowing another goal to slide into the net in the 55th minute, making the score 2-0. The final goal of the game was off of a penalty kick by the Lakers making the final 3-0.
On home field the Pacers hosted Arcadia University on Saturday with a 1-1 draw. In the 10th minute Owen Clearwaters connected with the net scoring for the Pacers, scoring his fifth goal of the season so far. The 86th minute was a lot of pressure on the Pacers defense. Arcadia was able to successfully get past Marywood’s defense to score the tying goal. In the 90th minute, Kelton Ostrander saved the Pacers from getting scored on, saving the game. The Pacers will be in Bethlehem on Tuesday to play Moravian University.
Women’s Soccer
Marywood traveled to compete in a match against Oswego State on Wednesday. The Pacers won 3-1 to keep their winning streak alive. Bryn Stiles scored twice for the Pacers: once in 27 seconds of the game and another in the 14th minute assisted by Madison Dias to put Marywood up 2-0. The Lakers’ only goal was scored by Amber McDermott in the 25th minute. Caroline Walters set up the final goal of the match assisting Britlyn Higgins who netted the final goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The Pacers had an accurate shooting night, shooting 11 shots, and 10 on goal. Genevieve Morrison was goalkeeper in the beginning of the game, having four saves for the Pacers.
On Saturday, the Pacers continued their winning streak to four against Ramapo College. The Pacers secured a 1-0 win. Starting off for the Pacers in the 31st minute, Kylie McDonald assisted Carly Walters for a goal. Morrison had three saves for the Pacers. On Wednesday Marywood will host Cairn University.
Men’s Golf
Marywood competed on Monday at the Moravian Weyhill Classic. The Pacers finished in fifth out of eight teams at Saucon Valley Country Club. Marywood’s Baden Hancock hit a 77, and tied for fifth place out of 45 golfers on the green. Donato Stridacchio tied for 17th, hitting 10 over par. Finishing in 25th for Marywood was Ryan Wittenberg with an 85.
Marywood lost to Lycoming College and Mount Saint Mary’s on Wednesday. The Pacers hosted a tri-scrimmage at Stone Hedge Golf Course. Hancock had a 75 on the par 71 course. Gehrig Dibble was tied for 10th place with an 83. Stridacchio shot an 88. Luke Landis scored an 88 for the Pacers.
Marywood finished sixth out of seven teams in Uxbridge, Mass. on Sunday. The Pacers competed in the MASCAC Men’s Golf Championships at the Blissful Meadows Golf Course, finishing with a +113. Marymount University took the win for the tournament with a +49. Tying for ninth place was Hancock with a +16. Wittenberg got 23rd with a +29, and was No.16.
Women’s Golf
Marywood had a tri-match Wednesday at Stone Hedge Golf Course. Marywood Lost to Elizabethtown College, beating Marywood 384-409. Mount Saint Mary’s was also in this tri-scrimmage, but did not receive a score. Leading the Pacers to take fourth place with a 96 was Megan Rickaby. Maddie Labatch hit a 102 putting the Pacers at seventh place. Tying for ninth was Chloe Mendicino with a 104. Maria Robinson hitting a 107, and Carly Mulroy hitting a 109 rounded the Pacers scoring.
Men’s Tennis
Opening the season on Tuesday, Marywood fell to the University of Scranton with a 6-1 loss. Earning the 6-2 win was Fred Kloss and Jack Biggs. Kloss forced a third set in the fifth singles match. He fell to the Royals by a 6-7, 6-1 score. The Royals couldn’t clutch the top singles by 6-2, 6-4 scores.
On Saturday Marywood secured a 6-1 win over SUNY Delhi. Gavin Gagliardi had a 6-0, 6-2 win in the top singles. Alex Corcoran finished with a 6-3,6-1 in No.2 singles. Having a pair of 6-4 wins was Kloss, and having a pair of 6-0 wins was Aidan Brunner in the fifth and sixth singles matches. Clutching the win with a shutout was Pacers’ Biggs and Kloss.
Marywood hosted Mount Saint Mary’s College on Sunday. The Pacers won 6-1. Gagliardi clinched the win at the top singles flight with a straight-sets victory, 6-3,7-6 (6). Marywood picked up singles wins from Kloss who cruised 6-0,6-3 at No.5 and Aidan Brunner who dominated 6-1,6-0 at No. 6. The Pacers grabbed the doubles point by taking two out of three matches. The Pacers will travel to DeSales University on Saturday.
Women’s Tennis
On Saturday Marywood clutched a 7-0 win to open the season against SUNY Delhi. Having a 6-1, 6-0 win was Kylie Kilgore. Alexandra Vitale had two 6-1 wins and took No. 2 in the singles match against SUNY Delhi. Adding on to that momentum Avianna Santarelli had a 6-1,6-0 win in the third singles. Catarina English shut out her opponent at No.4 singles. Hanna Adonizio had a pair of 6-1 victories. Finishing the singles match with two 6-0 wins was Hannah Brownlee. Marywood dominated all three doubles to secure the win. The Pacers host University of Saint Vincent on Tuesday.
Volleyball
The Pacers earned a victory against Cedar Crest College on Tuesday, beating them by 3-1. Marywood clutched its first win against Cedar Crest since 2019. The Falcons fell to the Pacers by 25-19, 18-25, 25-9, 25-12. The Pacers offense was on point. Genevieve Pollock had nine kills, and Taylor Hallam had an outstanding performance with two blocks, three aces and 12 points. Libby Zick had a fair share of 14 assists, and Ayla Bransford had 11 assists. Andrea Fraga had 33 digs, making that her new career best. Adding 10 digs was Catie Wolf. Ryleigh Hart protected the Pacers side with three blocks.
The Pacers traveled to Reading to compete against Penn State Berks and Penn State Abington in three sets on Saturday. In match one Marywood swept Penn State Abington 3-0. Breaking the single-match record was Marywood’s Genevieve Pollock with 18 kills. Taylor Hallam and Gracee Work both had 12 points. Protecting the Pacers was Caitie Woolf had 16 digs and Tess Connonlly had 10 digs. The Pacers shot .263 and the Lions had .137. Marywood swept Penn State Berks 3-0. Carrying the Pacers with 15 points, eight assists and seven kills was Carolina Samaniego. Marywood will host Oneonta on Wednesday.
Field Hockey
The Pacers clutched a win against Albright College to get back in the groove after their three-game losing streak on Wednesday. Marywood kept Albright scoreless, making the final 3-0. The Pacers played hard both in attack and defense to get the win. Dariane Jones had two assists. Offensively Bre Marchiano shutout with one save, and defensively Liv Rosengrant had a save. The first quarter was dry, but in the 19th minute Brooke Barwick scored for the Pacers. The momentum carried onto the 40th minute where Lany Straub stole a pass in the backfield and drove it to the net. Breanna Landers scored her first goal for Marywood in the 54th minute shutting Albright out of the competition.
The Pacers traveled to Juniata College on Saturday. Marywood took home the win, shutting out Juniata 5-0. In the ninth minute Brooke Barwick assisted Dariane Jones to score. In the fourth period the Pacers scored fourth consecutive goals. In the 49th minute Barwick scored an unassisted goal. Emma Toth had an assist from Lany Straub in the 50th minute. Jones scored her second goal in the 51st minute. The fifth and final goal to leave Juniata College silenced was Addison Marcin. The Pacers will be matched up against King’s College at home on Saturday.
