NAME: Dave Scarnato
YEAR: 2012
MAJOR: English; Journalism and Broadcast Communications (minors)

ABOUT: I joined The Wood Word in the Spring of 2009 when the Sports section desperately needed a writer. Since then, Co-Editor Shane Ostroski and myself have accepted the responsibility of running the section, taking it to new heights by writing stories that not only update readers on what is happening in the Marywood Athletics Department, but in the local and national sports scene as well. In 2010, I was promoted from staff writer to Assistant Sports Editor. In 2011, I was promoted to Sports Co-Editor. That summer I interned with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, writing for the team’s game day program, Playball!, where I wrote a majority of the programs’ feature stories. Some of the game recap stories I wrote have appeared on MiLB.com on numerous occasions as well. During that time, I interviewed Hall of Fame member, Ryne Sandberg and New York Yankees superstar, Alex Rodriguez. When I'm not writing for The Wood Word, I work at WNEP-TV as an Editor and Photographer, where I interviewed Tampa Bay Rays manager, Joe Maddon. I also served on Marywood’s television station, TVM, as a play-by-play announcer for Pacers Basketball, and on TVM News as a reporter and anchor. My post-graduation plans are to become a television reporter and anchor. Twitter: @DaveScarnato
