Pacers Sports Report: Dominance performances and golf wraps up the season

Baseball
On Friday, the baseball team faced the Cabrini University Cavaliers at Pacer Field. This was a high scoring event as after two innings, the Cavaliers were leading 6-3. The scoring was only just beginning for Cabrini as the Cavaliers brought in seven runners in the next three innings. In the fifth, the Pacers got back on the board off a wild pitch Vinny D’Auria scored on. Cabrini dominance continued as three more runners reached home in the sixth. Marywood did everything in the world to comeback, but fell short, 16-13.

The next day, the Pacers would have a doubleheader against Cabrini University. Marywood’s first two innings saw seven runners make it to home while the defense held the Cavaliers to just two runs. Cabrini was able to make it into a two run game but Cameron Kohut’s homerun put all hopes to sleep. The Pacers were victorious, 12-5.

Game two was underway and the Pacers were looking for back-to-back wins. Christian Michak helped the Pacers get on the scoreboard first as he was able to steal home base. After this, Cabrini went on a 6-0 scoring run in the next three innings. In the fifth, Michak, AJ Kuzior, and Tristan Gatchalain all came around to home to make the game 6-4. The Pacer defense would let up six more runs for the rest of the game and the offense started to cool off. Marywood was defeated, 12-4.

Marywood squared off against the Mount St. Mary Mountaineers on Tuesday. The Pacers’ offense was untouchable from start to finish. In the first inning Marywood scored three runs compared to the Mountaineers one. Jumping to the third inning, the Pacers went on to get six runners to reach home. In the fifth and sixth inning, Marywood combined for a total of 11 runs scored. The Pacers continued to score and secured the win, 23-5.

Marywood was in action again on Wednesday as the team traveled to Albright College. Marywood found itself down one run after the first inning, however Marywood was able to tie it up after D’Auria made it home. In the fourth, Albright retook the lead off of a double. This was short lived as AJ Giannetti hit a single and scored two runners. Marywood held onto the one run lead and won 3-2.

Danny Tiedemann earned the Weekly Honor Roll. He allowed only one hit through four innings of play. Tiedemann also pitched a scoreless inning to secure the victory over Kings.

Softball
Also on Saturday, the softball team had a doubleheader against the Cabrini University Cavaliers. The game was a defensive battle as both sides struggled to score and get on base. The Pacers were stuck out nine times on the day. The drought ended when Emma McNally hit a double to send Kat Davis home. In that same inning, McNally would score off of a Priscilla Grill single. The Pacers held onto the lead and won 2-0.

The second game started with Tori Para hitting a double and bringing Davis home. The Cavaliers responded by scoring a run of its own in the bottom of the second. When the Pacers were back at bat, Grill singled to center field and it resulted in Alex Dusman scoring. The Pacers offense built off this and scored five more times. Marywood’s defense prevented Cabrini from scoring another run. The Pacers were victorious, 8-1.

On Tuesday, the team had a doubleheader against the Misericordia Cougars. The game started out with a McNally single that sent Davis home for the score. The second inning is where the Pacers’ offense found its groove. The team put up nine total runs to extend its early lead to 10-0. Marywood wasn’t finished as Jessie Kmak hit a double and brought in two more runs. The game ended after five innings of plans as the Pacers won 12-0.

After a 30 minute break, both teams were ready to start game two. The Cougars looked like a completely different team as Misericordia put up five runs in the first inning alone. Misericordia’s offense didn’t slow down and scored three more times. Marywood got its first run in the sixth inning when Kmak doubled and brought two runners home. Marywood was unable to build momentum from this and fell 9-2.

Two Pacers earned conference awards this week. First was Grill securing Player of the Week. In the games she played in, she had two runs and 4 RBIs with a .500 batting average. Finally, Marissa Gregory won pitcher of the week. She broke school records for single season saves and shutout records.

Men’s Tennis
Marywood faced off against the Immaculata University Mighty Macs at the Pacers Tennis Courts. The Pacers ended up losing the match 0-9. This is the sixth time in the season where the team lost 0-9. Marywood falls to 1-8 on the year and its next match will be the Atlantic East Semi Final against Neumann.

Women’s Tennis
The women’s team also faced the Immaculata University Mighty Macs on Saturday. The team was victorious and won 6-3. Kylie Kilgore and Cat English were successful in doubles. Gabby Nunez and Meilei Cianfrocco also won. The four women also won their single matches. Kilgore also earned AEC Athlete of the Week Honors.

Men’s Lacrosse
On Saturday, the Lacrosse team hosted the Marymount University Saints. The game opened with Aiden Kilkenny finding the net for the Pacers. John Scibello also scored twice in the opening minutes. Marymount scored a couple goals of its own and were leading 4-3 at the end of the first quarter. Dillon Kane and Scibello scored to keep it close. Then the Saints would go on a 10-0 run. The Pacers finally scored again but it came with just three minutes left in the fourth. Marywood fell, 17-6.

The Pacers faced off against the Immaculata Mighty Macs The game was fully in control of the Mighty Macs from start to finish. The Pacers offense struggled to get anything going and the Macs took full advantage. Marywood ended up losing 9-2. The two goals from the Pacers game from Scibello.

Women’s Lacrosse
Marywood went on the road this past weekend to face the Marymount University Saints. The game started out with the Saints scoring six goals in less than five minutes. The Pacers broke the streak from a Kaitlyn Smith goal. Marymount responded by scoring six goals again. The Pacers scored right before the end of the first quarter by Avery Meighan. The Saints continued to be dominant and hold the Pacers to limited goals. Ultimately, the Pacers lost, 19-7.

On Wednesday, the softball teams squared off against the Immaculata Mighty Macs. In the first five minutes, Marywood already found itself down 3-1. This did not slow down the Pacers and the team went on a 6-1 run to close out the first quarter. The second quarter included a lot of back and forth goals. At the break the Mighty Macs had the advantage by one. Coming out of the break, Marywood went on another 6-1 run. The Pacers remained in control and were victorious, 20-16.

Meighan earned the Weekly Honor Roll. She put up 10 goals and five assists this week.

Men’s Golf
The Pacers had a Quad-Match a week ago at Stone Hedge Golf Course. Four total schools competed at the event and Marywood placed in second. On Sunday and Monday, the team traveled to Golden Oaks Golf Club for the Atlantic East Conference Championship. A total of five schools were a part of the event, including , Marywood, Marymount, Cabrini, Neumann, and William Paterson University. The Pacers ended up placing third to finish out the season.
