The university provided updates on emergency protocols in a newsletter sent to families of undergraduate students at the end of December after an incident on campus involving an armed student last semester.

According to the newsletter, the university reviewed and updated the Emergency Action and Response Plan and the E2Campus messaging system, as well as established a Safety Implementation Task Force and an Incident Management Team. Additionally, the university developed an Electronic Emergency Reference Guide.

The university also held an active shooter drill on Dec. 18 to “train university staff in emergency response,” according to the newsletter.

The Wood Word previously reported the Safety Implementation Task Force has reviewed the university’s emergency crisis plan and is evaluating the plan that Marywood President Sr. Mary Persico, IHM, Ed.D, discussed at a public meeting in October.

As of the time of this article, the Emergency Action and Response plan has not been updated on the Marywood Portal. Students still have access to the plan that was last updated in February 2011.

The newsletter also included information on how to sign up for emergency or weather-related cancellation notifications through e-mail or text alerts.
