Marywood field hockey successfully finishes September with a winning record of 6 wins and 3 losses.

After playing matchups in the Netherlands, Germany and France during late July and early August, Marywood returned home for its regular season. September was filled with lots of action and hard-fought games for the Pacers.

Sept. 1: Away vs. Vassar College

The Pacers started off their regular season on Friday, Sept. 1 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. at Vassar College. Juniors Cassie Slusser and Belle Coleman each had a shot on goal. This was freshman Leah Ewing’s debut as Marywood’s goalkeeper. The Pacers were ultimately shut out by Vasser with a final score of 4-0.

Sept. 9: Home vs. Wells College

Eight days later, the Pacers bounced back at home against Wells College. The Pacers had a total of 25 shots on goals with nine finding the net. Within the game’s first 10 minutes, there were four goals. Brie Sumner, Lauren Youngken, Jordan Saybe, Corrin Hasty, Felicia Pescatore, Ava Howells and Dariane Jones all had goals for the Pacers, with Sumner and Hasty scoring twice. The game was called at halftime due to excessive heat resulting in a final score of 9-0.

Sept. 12: Home vs. University of Scranton

Coming off a strong win, the Pacers couldn’t keep the same energy and ended up falling short to the University of Scranton 2-1. Early in the first half, senior Cydney Lahr scored off a corner, assisted by Slusser, making this Lahr’s first goal of her season. Scranton made it an even score with a goal in the 21st minute. It was a back-and-forth battle for the majority of the game until Scranton scored its final goal with just 16 seconds to go. Ewing had 10 saves in the goal.

“We are very optimistic for the rest of the season. We’re looking to just keep this intensity and maybe convert more offensively on our offensive corners but other than that, looking to just continue the intensity,” said head coach Julie Trott.
