Attacker John Scibello Prepares to take a shot against Scranton University

The Marywood men’s lacrosse team faced off against the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins on April 30, for the first round of the Atlantic Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Griffins beat the Pacers with a score of 14-9.

It was a back and forth first quarter, and both teams came out with energy. The Griffins midfielder GinaLuca Lockhart got the first goal of the game in the first minute. The Pacers midfielder Kieran Scanlan opened up the scores sheet for the Pacers.

The Griffins came charging back on the offensive, with Lockhart scoring his second goal of the quarter. With eight minutes left in the quarter midfielder Dillion Kane evened the game at 2-2. Attacker Zach Saneman gave the Pacers their first lead of the game with a goal. The final goal of the quarter went to the Griffins, scored by midfielder Ian Kish.

The Griffins were able to get a shot off at the buzzer that scored. However, the refs called the goal back and denied it, ending the quarter with an even score of 3-3.

In the second quarter, the Pacers attacker John Scibelo got the first goal. Griffins attacker Cameron Ostroff scored a goal, with attacker Jason Eide getting another goal for the Griffins while the Pacers were a man down. The Griffins contained the offensive pressure with two more goals from Lockhart and midfielder Nick Flamma.

The Griffins had a lead of 7-4 with four minutes left in the first half. For the Pacers, Sanemen were able to get two goals to close out the first half. The score going into the half was 7-6.

The first goal of the second half was an own goal by the Pacers giving the Griffins the first goal of the half. Midfielder Richie Hughes scored a goal for the Griffins giving them a three goal lead. Pacers attacker Aiden Kilkenny scored to bring the game to a score of 9-7. The Griffins Eide and Lockhart scored a goal each furthering their lead to 4 goals.

The last goal of the quarter was scored by Midfielder Harrison Miccio. The third quarter finished with the Griffins leading 11-8.

The Griffins went into the fourth quarter with a lead of three goals. Lockhart got the Griffins off to a quick start with a goal thirty seconds into the quarter. Eide scored an additional goal for the Griffins. The final goal for the Griffins came with five minutes left in the quarter, scored by Lockhart.

The final goal of the game was scored by Pacers attacker Dalton Metzger. The game finished with a score of 14-9.

Pacers head coach Jon Knowles was proud of his team despite the loss.
“They played really hard today. I don’t think we played poorly at all. They [The Griffins] had a lot of energy today, they deserve it. Not how I would’ve liked the season to end, but I am proud of my team.” said Knowles.”

Pacers captain Tyler Wren emphasized the accomplishments the team had over the season.

“This is one of the best seasons Marywood has ever had. We came up short today and it happens sometimes.” said Wren.
